Quando ler “it has long been known that…” significa “I haven’t bothered to look up the original reference, but…” ou “three of the samples were chosen for detailed study” deve ler-se “the results on the others didn’t make sense” ou ainda “It is clear that much additional work will be required before a complete understanding” quer dizer “I don’t understand it”.
